Truth is: we live in a hyper-stimulated environment, people get bored quick.

Yes, you have great content.

Double yes, your ideas are brilliant.

But as Saint Bernard of Clairvaux said:

"The road to hell is paved with good intentions".

Humans are drawn to what gives them energy. So your communication needs to fill their energy needs. Otherwise, it will fall flat and fail.

I remember one of the most brilliant human beings I've ever met--He was my University Professor.

This man was knighted by the Queen of the Netherlands for his contribution to the knowledge of Humanity.

This man was the incarnation of wisdom and truth.

Yet, he was the most boring human being I've ever came across.

When I sat in class, I almost had to pry my eyes open with pliers. 

I would fill my body with caffeine just before his class. But as soon as he spoke, all my best efforts evaporated.

By body would begin to feel heavy. My mouth automatically went into the shape of a yawn, anticipating the boredom to come.

And my eyes, each time I opened them, it's like each lid was a magnet irresistibly attracted to the other.

Yes, pearls of wisdom were coming out of his mouth to grace our ears, but they were not delivered right.

Inpite of my best intentions and his, boredom would still overtake every person in class, and it wasn't uncommon to hear a snore or two here and there.

So--if a Professor with a captive audience of eager students cannot keep them engaged if he's boring them to hell...

...What chance does a boring communicator stand at a time where people are looking for an excuse to delete your stuff and rush into more titillating pleasures, like the latest memes or the hottest gossip?

Well, you've come to the right place.

Because when you use the two secrets of Energy in communicatorn, you'll wake the listeners' brains right up.

If you don't, people will literally ignore all your hard work, and all your time and effort gets flushed down the drain into the swamps of irrelevance.

But when you keep people's attention until the end, you literally transform their lives and yours:

They will absorb your message.

Seeds of your insights will penetrate their subconscious.

Your call-to-action will actually be heard and implemented.

You'll have more readers, more listeners, more clients, more significance in this world... Just because of this episode.

Now, I'll start with this example I've written. I was asked to define Leadership, then I'll excavate the two secrets hidden in plain sight in this short text. Let's begin:

I think of a leader EXACTLY like a bank...

The bank lends people money so they have the resources to further their plans...

What does the leader lend?!

The leader lends to others... Confidence.

The TRUTH is this:

Human being live in a constant state of uncertainty and anxiety.

Human beings don't know what the right next move should be, what's the correct next step, what's the most effective plan for the future.

Because of this, 95% of humans on this planet are NOT confident. They're filled with self-doubt.

However, a magical thing happens when we're around someone who is confident, who is sure, who has the wisdom and knowledge to know what the right next steps should be, who has a very clear vision of the future and a specific plan to follow.

Suddenly, that confident energy they have seeps inside us, and we feel stronger, more capable... more confident.

Underneath everything... Underneath the words, the stories, the plans, the meetings, the speeches, the accoutrement....

Underneath it all, this is the true purpose of the Leader...

To lend confidence to others.

To create clarity.

To stop uncertainty in its tracks.

And to paint a vivid vision, an applicable plan, and infuse everyone with the energy of... belief.

So that people stop being stuck, confused and anxious... and have the energy to move forward, progress, and impact the world.

That's the deep reality of Leadership.

And that's what changes the world.

Did you see the two secrets in there?

Me, Abdulaziz, as a Business Revenue Expert and a Copywriter almost a decade in the trenches, I have to use these two secrets every day.

The two secrets are: * Pressure & Release, And * A New Take on Curiosity.

Beginning with Pressure & Release:

Great communication is teasing--it gives a bit, then it takes away.

Pressure & Release is simple: Give an emotion to the sympathetic  nervous system of your audience, so they get momentarily excited! Then, right away, calm them down and bring up their Parasympathetic Nervous System.

You can jolt them with a fear, then relax them into safety.

You can trigger their happiness, then remind them of past misery so they relax into gratitude.

You can make them angry at their detractors, then ease them into the a sense of hope at a better tomorrow.

Excited. Calm. Excited. Calm. Excited. Calm.

Think of each emotion you trigger as a jolt of energy that moves them one step forward into your communication.

Then you give them a break. Then one more jolt, one more step forward. Until the very end.

This keeps them energized, excited, teased, and entertained... no matter how dry the topic could be!

And you may be wondering: Why not just excited them all the way to the end! Why is this rollercoaster Game of ups and downs necessary?

At first take, that sounds reasonable.

And many amateurs try just that. But they fail.

Why? Because they don't respect how the human brain works.

Have you ever heard of Hedonistic Adaptation?

If the brain stays excited for too long, it will get used to that level of excitement and will stop responding.

Because the brain doesn't react to what is consistent. It reacts to what is changing.

And playing with the Pressure & Release gives this brain the stimulation of constant change without the risk of hedonistic adaptation.

Hypnotists use this--they call it Fractionation. When someone is put into a trance, they don't go that deep at first. But the more often they take them in and out of trance, the deeper the person will find yourself relaxing, letting go, enjoying the experience... fully.

That is why the first secret of never ever boring your audience or readers with your communication is integrating Pressure & Release into everything you do.

Happiness, then Calm. Sadness, then Hope. News, then Nostalgia.

The second secret is Curiosity.

And I have recently read research that literally took me off guard:

In it, they discovered that the feeling of Curiosity is fulfilling to the human brain. It craves it, it enjoys it, it's satisfying for it.

This is an insight, because most communicators view Curiosity as a means to an end: Opening loops here and there to keep people engaged and looking forward to what will come next.

And some people feel like they're tricksters, playing games with their audiences by opening loops--so they don't do it enough.

But knowing that Curiosity is a human need. Curiosity makes the experience scrumptious--that means go for it!

Make people curious. Curiosity is such a delicious experience, people read detective novels and watch suspense movies just to be intrigued and curious!

Curiosity is a type of value, a currency of impactful communication!

Listen to how I imbued this short text with curiosity, and this will definitely give you ideas on how to use it...

It's my answer to: How would Seth Godin define marketing?

Seth Godin will say this:

Marketing is a very special kind of Storytelling.

And this is one of the most important answers you'll read this whole year...

While most busy are focused on the elements to build their marketing.

While most people are spending time deciding on their USP and messaging and persona and traits and unique mechanism and all that...

They don't even realize this ONE thing:

They're losing even before they begin.

That all they're doing is re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic during a black plague...

And here is the PROOF…

Imagine this person based on these characteristics:

* Smart * Loud * Generous * Lazy * Aggressive * Positive

=> What type of person does that list make you imagine?

It makes you imagine a likable person, doesn't it?

Now, imagine this second person based on these characteristics:

* Aggressive * Loud * Lazy * Smart * Generous * Positive

=> How do you feel about this person?

You feel hesitant about liking them, don't you?

Now, the truth--REVEALED:

Those are the EXACT same characteristics! 

But based on which information the human brain gets exposed to first, it will receive what comes after positively or negatively.

Favorably or unfavorably.

This means all those elements of "Marketing" you think are important and burn the midnight oil building are literally... worthless...

UNLESS…

Unless you build the story that will frame them and put them in the right light first!

That it is NOT… WHO you are or WHAT you do or even HOW you communicate your marketing that matters...

It is first and foremost the CONTEXT you create BEFORE you communicate them that give them either power or weakness.

And the right tool to set this context is — the right Story.

Because like you’ve experienced first hand in the exercise above, the same communication can make you loved with the right context or absolutely ignored and hated when the context is wrong.

Marketing is about taking control of the CONTEXT.

Marketing is about making sure your communications will be received in the ways that are most favorable and impactful.

Marketing is a special type of storytelling.

When you do this, all your usual content, promotion and pitches will work at least 1000% better.

Seth Godin will say: "This is Marketing."

I say this is "The Science of Positioning."

And we'll BOTH be right.

Because what matters most is that you DO NOT ignore this.

Use it. Apply it. Set the right context before any communication.

And you'll be SHOCKED how your results 10X with the same effort.

Just because you took a few minutes to tell the right story first.

...Can you see it? Can you feel the Curiosity and the Pressure & Release  intertwining within every sentence?

I bet you do.

These two add energy to your words that make people tingle with excitement every time they receive your communication.

Energy is the real secret behind it all. When you wield it, you will have the power to stand like a giant in a marketplace filled with communication midgets.
