### 2.04 Background Information

To understand the Chaos Theory rules of life, you have to know of a couple of stories and analogies.

The first is the story of the bird. Scientists put birds in cages, and they put a mechanism that gives them food at random intervals.

Then, like all good scientists, they waited, observed, and recorded what happened.

And what did happen? You may wonder...

What happened is very interesting: Whatever the bird was doing when the food came it did more of it, trying to notice patterns. And if it happened twice that it was doing that same thing, it thought that is what caused the food to be served!

So if a bird was turning his head to the left when food was served, it will do more of it. And if it happened twice, it will keep turning its head left whenever it is hungry, waiting for food to arrive.

Or if it were picking at a branch of wood in the cage when food gets served, it will pick on it again and again and again when it's hungry because it believes that is what causes the food to come!

This is confirmation bias in action: When we humans believe something, we will literally delete any contradictory information from our reality, and only focus on what confirms it.

So the bird who is turning left, every time it turns left and nothing happens, it ignores those times, and when it happens that it turns left when the food is served it will think: "Haaa!!! It works I told you! This is the key, the right way, this is what works!!!"

A famous human example of this is the Cargo cult that happened on the Island of Vanuatu in the early 20th century.

In this Cult, people from that Island were exposed to Cargo planes arriving to the Island bringing in goods, food, and riches.

So what did they do? They didn't understand the deeper princpiles that make the cargo planes arrive and the goods, foods and riches to be there, they didn't understand there is an economy behind it, and an exchange of money, and logistical organization, and trade and all that.

All they saw is some people in an airfield waiting, then a Cargo plane full of goods arriving.

So they thought: "Aha! That's the secret!"

And they went around, made a similar place that looks like the airfield, and began praying to the gods to bring them that wealth and prosperity, and if it didn't come it's become they were sinners and didn't pray enough (And below, this will be tied nicely with how false beliefs you have now may cause you to punish yourself and be hard on yourself for reasons that are totally wrong).

### 2.05 What Are The Wrong Beliefs People Hold That Are Stopping Their Success?

The biggest one is thinking there is only one way to succeed.

That's a belief programmed onto us from schools, where in math, we are taught: There is only one right answer, that 1+1 = 2.

However, we forget that the answers are literally infinte, even if mathematically!

1.5 + 0.5 = 2. 1.99 + 0.01 = 2. 0.35 + 1.65 = 2.

That possibilites are endless!

Another wrong belief is people think in extreme black-and-white manner.

They think: "I am either a success or a failure." "I have done things wrong or I did them right." "I am where I want to be, otherwise I am in hell."

They don't have a view that takes into account progress and learning.

Maybe you've made a goal to sell a 100 units of a product in a month, and only sold 70. Most people will be disappointed.

And to have a positive view of your progress isn't optional or nice to have. It is NECESSARY for you to reach your goals.

Why? How?

Because of the Winner Effect: Your brain has neurochemicals that it releases when you view yourself as winning that encourages action and progress. And your brain releases cortisol and other inhibitors when it senses you're making mistakes and doing things wrong.

So, if you keep telling yourself: "Oh, why can't I get this right!" "Oh, I keep making mistakes!" "Oh, I am not where I want to be, maybe I'll never get there!" All you're doing is telling your brain you're losing, and it will release inhibitor neurochemicals that will make your journey much harder, will force you into procrastination as a defense mechanism, and makes it less likely you'll ever reach your goals.

Some of my clients are in such a situation, where they feel stuck, where they're punishing themselves, and I have a lot of experience getting them to the other side where they delete these limiting patterns that really make life miserable. If you're interested, email me: mentor@storybonding.com

### 2.06 So What Are The Principles of Chaos Theory?

Let me give you a metaphor to explain this better.

Imagine you have in front of you many many strings. And the strings are of many sizes: small, medium and large. And at the end of some of the strings there is a coin of gold. And at the end of a few rare ones there is a diamond. And you don't know which is which.

What do you do?

The only right way is to act: Pull strings randomly to see what happens.

Some strings will be short, will fall into your hand. Will you then beat yourself up, tell yourself you're a loser and you never get anything right?

Nope. You won't waste time on such nonsense. You'll be too busy pulling on the next string.

And you'll use everything you have to pull on strings. Both hands, your teeth, even your feet if you're able to.

And if you pull a string and find there is more to it, you didn't pull all of it? Well, you pull again, you pull more. As many times as you need, even if it is 10 times to get to its end.

Why? Because you know for sure there are a specific number of strings with a gold coin. And a few rare ones with a diamond. And you cannot know until you try.

As the Lyrics of the song Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked go:

> I'm through accepting limits
> 'Cause someone says they're so
> Some things I cannot change
> But till I try I'll never know

That's the attitude to have: That until you try, you'll never know for sure.

Or, as my other metaphor which uses the Pareto principle to help you know how many strings will you expect to have Gold in, and how many diamond in.

Imagine an infinite road with an infinite number of doors.

90% of those doors lead to an empty room.
9% lead to a room with a gold coin.
And 1% lead to a room with a diamond.

So, let's say you've opened 40 doors that led to empty rooms. Do you despair, give up, blame yourself, and wallow in pity and punish yourself?

Not at all, it makes no sense!

Instead, you'll aim to open at least 100 doors knowing that on average, 9 of them will have gold, and 1 is very likely to have the diamond which will keep you fed and rich for a long long time!

This is exactly what Colonel Sanders, the man behind Kentucky Fried Chicken did: He tried to sell his secret recipe 1,009 times before anyone bought it. So he opened that many doors that turned out to be empty before he found one that had a stack of diamonds behind it.

Or Richard Branson, he launched 400 companies that weren't so successful before he made the one that turned him into a bilionaire.

Those are outliers. Which means it is taking the metaphor to an extreme: To find a Billion dollars behind a door, you have to try a 1000 times.

But, until then, on your way there, 90% of anything you try, even if it's done correctly or perfectly, will not lead to good results.

9% will give you solid results.

1% will give you great results.

And 1 in a 1000 of your tries will give you fantastic amazing incredible results!

This is in EVERYTHING you do.

Only 1 out of 10 client is interested enough to buy, therefore when selling, your first purpose is to filter out the 90% of people who aren't interested (We can discuss that some other day, the criteria that let you know whether you're dealing with a top buyer who will buy, or with a time waster who will kick the tires, waste your time, and make you feel your sales ability is lacking while the fault was not at all yours. It's a total myth that you can sell ice to Eskimos. Instead, be smart, and find someone going through a desert, then you can sell them ice all day!)

### 2.07 So When To Apply This?

Everywhere in life where you want something that you can't pay someone else to prepare for you.

I mean if you go buy ice cream, you don't expect 90% to be rubbish, and only 10% to be good. Or if you go to buy a house, you don't expect 90% to be on a shaky foundation, and only 10% to be solid.

But in everything else where there is uncontrolled variablity, the 90%-9%-1% distribution will hold.

When searching for a new assistant or a new employee? 90% will not perform well, 9% will be adequate, 1% will be amazing. So look for that 1%.

When getting a freelancer or a consultant? You'll find that 90% miss the deadlines, 9% get things done on time but the work isn't of high quality, and 1% are the rare amazing knowledgeable gems.

When going Bird Watching, you'll find 90% of the time you'll see common birds, 9% will be birds that are less common, and 1% you'll come across exotic birds that are a pleasure to behold.

### 2.08 What Are The Benefits of Putting This Into Action?

There are 3 benefits we can extrapolate from the understanding we created so far:

1) Added Speed of Implementation
2) Distinguishing the Right Action
3) Positively Dealing with Rejection

So let's discuss each one of them:

1) Added Speed of Implementation

When you understand that metaphor that you're pulling strings, and the other that you're opening doors to see what is behind them, what is then the most valuable thing you can do?

It's to pull the strings and to open the doors!

It means waiting to perfectly open a door, choreographing how you will open it, or wearing silk gloves to open it in style are absolutely useless.

Although, please don't take this into extremes. When dealing with people, the quality of presentation matters, it's part of opening the door.

BUT, this means IMPROVE while opening doors.

Learn WHILE you earn.

Don't separate the two.

The most improtant thing is to try, to test, to open doors and see what is behind them.

And realize: Whatever is worth doing well, is worth doing badly at first.

So, instead of spending time preparing, taking action and try things out in the world to discover what is behind that specific door.

2) Distinguishing the Right Action

The metaphors also help you understand which actions are the most valuable.

So, what are the characteristics of the truly valuable actions?

They are actions that can directly lead to the result you want.

So, if your goal is to earn money, the right action is to offer to solve people's problems for money. Spending uneeded time organizing your calender or tinkering with the IT systems of your website, or making your logo look better DO NOT open doors.

As Peter Drucker said: "Marketing and innovation produce results; all the rest are costs."

Marketing is presenting offers to people who can benefit in return of money, which is the oxygen for your business.

And innovation is creating better products so that more people choose you rather than your competitors.

So, in business, 80% of your time should be focused on those two because that is opening doors. If you can delegate the rest and only do those too, even better.

Or if your goal is to become an actor, then opening doors is going to castings. 80% of your time should be focused on that. And the rest, such as studying the history of acting, or watching movies for inspiration, etc, are important but a lot less valuable. As I said before: It's much better to learn while you earn, to improve your acting by getting experience rather than theory.

Even in consuming content, you better create this rule for yourself:

For each 1 hour of content you consume, you better spend 2 hours taking action, opening doors, creating content, or whatever can directly lead to the goal you have.

3) Positively Dealing with Rejection

This is essential, as I said earlier, in activating the Winner Effect. Where the better you feel about taking action, and the more positive reinforcement, hope and optimism you have, the more doors you'll find yourself easily opening, and the more action you will take without feeling any resistence or struggle.

And that is a really worthy ideal!

But as important is changing the ingrained programming most of us have:

We treat ourselves just like a tyrant treats his salve.

We expect ourselves to be perfect, to never make mistakes, and we demand of ourselves more work than is reasonable, and we command ourselves to be extremely successful easily and quickly. It is totally unrealistic, unless you're one of the lucky ones who opens within the first couple of doors their 1 in a 1000 extreme success door.

Which is possible!

This is important: Because as long as you have a breath in your lungs, no matter how old you are, you never know - the next door you open might be your extreme success door that will change your life.

I had a mantra about this, that I will share with you using this story:

When I first started in online business, I didn't have testimonials or a website or nothing. Just a lot of hard work studying and improving my email copywriting skills.

So, to get clients, I had to contact clients cold, and to do a good job preparing a proposal package for each so that I don't come across as a Spammer.

And since this is a very difficult situation to come in: To contact potential clients cold without reference or testimonials at the time... The best I could get is a 1% response rate.

This means preparing a solid specific offer got me ignored 99% of the time. But I stayed motivated because I know at some point, the door number 100, that magical door, will eventually come. And it did! And that's a story for another day.

But I'll share with you the mantra that I used to say to myself before beginning the work of preparing and contacting prospects cold.

It was: "Today might be the day."

That's it. So simple, and so true: Today might be the day I get that diamond from one of the strings I will pull.

Because what I can control, the only thing I can truly do short term is to keep opening doors.

Yes, and to keep improving myself so that the doors I am opening become of a higher quality leading to better results, but that's another concept for another day.

### 2.09 But What About The Masters From The Past!

I can almost hear some people complaining: "But what about the wise people from the past, all the plans they've told us are the right things to do, all the things they recommend are right!"

All those are an illusion. It's like that bird turning its head to the left and noticing it gets served food when it does so.

The magic is not in those plans. Yes, some plans are much better than others.

But the magic is first and foremost in acting, acting fast, and opening more doors, pulling on more strings, to get to the result you want.

As General Patton said: "A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow."

And the worth of those plans prepared by the wise old masters is really this: If you study them, you'll find they push people into action. They have a focus on doing things in the world. None of those plans from anybody we consider wise involve just procrastinating, or studying for months or years without applying anything hoping to become ready.

Get ready while you take action.

Prepare by getting feedback from the world.

And open yourself to the possibility of opening up a top 1% door just because you dared to turn on the handle before you were ready.

We all had this experience:

For example, in sports, you try to score and play perfectly, but you fail, you don't score. And another day, you're tired, unfocused, try to score without really doing it well, and you score and win! That's exactly what I mean, the door and the room behind it determine the results more than how well you're able to open the door.

Or when cooking, sometimes we throw things together into a meal that comes out AMAZING, fragrant, tasty and delicious. You took action, variance came into play, and things happened.

### 2.08 Possible Mistakes:

A big possible mistake: Don't mis-understand my words and think just because what matters most is opening doors, you think there is no right way to do things, and that action is more important than anything.

An to exemplify this clearly: Let's say you want to earn money. If you go around stabbing people in order to rob their wallets, you might make some money, but very quickly you'll be put into jail, maybe even hanged, and all your efforts stopped.

As always: I believe that being a good person, actually helping people, and doing good things in the world is the right way to take action. And since you can help people, you have to open doors and let them know you can help them.

What I mean is:

Don't wait to be 100% ready before taking action. There is something called the Beginners Luck Phenomenon, which you can read about on Wikipedia. Which is that when someone takes action, even if they're not yet that skilled, they open the door to themselves to experience good luck and get good results that they will miss out on if they waited to be ready. Plus, we're always improving. If you keep waiting to be ready, you train yourself to wait, and there can always be more improvements, so you'll wait for years, or forever ever. Don't let this excuse stop you. Improve when you help people and earn good money for whatever level of skill you have, and get better and earn more with more experience.

Take action. Open doors and see what happens. In 90% of the cases nothing will come of it, so begin going through those doors now and don't waste another day.

### 2.09 Call-To-Action

And if you'd like help with this. If you'd like to work on your mindset to let of self-sabotage and self-punishment from the wrong perspectives on failure, or if you'd like to create a plan to begin your business in a way that maximizes you opening doors so that you're doing the few activities that really make the difference rather than wasting your time on things that others say are important but actually just waste time, if you'd like to begin your business correctly and discover what is unique about you that can help people, then email me today: mentor@storybonding.com just say hello and let's begin a conversation.

### 2.10 Guideline Reminder

And remember: Don't sell. Bond. StoryBond.

Because human bonds are and will always be the most valuable, most potent, and most powerful form of competitive advantage.

### 2.10 This Will Give Your Hope & Optimism

Because no matter how dark the time seem, no matter how stuck you feel in your situation, the solution is simple: Open more doors.

The more doors you open, the closer you get to a door that will get you results.

And any door you open to find behind it an empty room, you know it's one door less to your journey to success, you've just eliminated one more door from the 100 and need less tries to see real results.

Which really gives you self-reliance: you know you can control this world more than you may expect.

Yes, the world is chaotic. Things are happening randomly. People don't behave as we expect them to behave.

But so what? No matter what chaos is around you, you keep walking down that infinite street with infinite doors, opening them one by one knowing you will get what you want.

And then, people all around you will be like a leaf in the wind, too scared to open doors because they fear rejection... they're waiting, trying to be ready, to prepare... They feel stuck, they see no hope, they think they need to find the only one correct plan to the results they want... Rather than realizing as I talk about in other episodes, that there is a correct plan, but it is a plan to uses your natural talents, a plan that is specific to you and to your goals, so that action feels easy and simple to you, so that work doesn't feel like work but like fun because you are doing what you were born to do in this world.

You see those people, and they notice you added confidence, your unshackable character, your newfound sense of self-esteem, and they'll ask: "How did you do it?"

You'll smile. You'll remember today, this episode, the understandings and changes you've experiences, and know this is the beginning of a brighter, better, greater future for you, today.

YOU CAN DO IT!
Gratitude
